UPCOMING DISCUSSIONS:
February 9th: A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz
May 6th: All Other Nights by Dara Horn
The second book in our "One Book, One Region" 2009 - 2010 series is
A Tale of Love and Darkness by Amos Oz.
Our region discussion will be held on February 9, 2010, from 1 - 3 pm.
A Tale of Love and Darkness is a memoir by Oz. Oz chronicles his childhood in Jerusalem during the end of the British Mandate of Palestine and the early years of the State of Israel, and his later experiences as a teenager at the Hulda kibbutz. Even as a child, Oz crossed paths with many prominent Israeli figures including Shay Agnon, David Ben-Gurion, and the poet Zelda. Told in a non-linear fashion, Oz's own story is interleaved with tales of his family's Eastern European roots.
